Carousel Flora Design Christmas Tree
We had such a wonderful response to the Carousel Christmas Tree at Culverden. The basic structure was made from old fence wire with vine woven through it, and then we decorated with dark green camellia foliage and long-lasting orange leucospermum which have an amazing impact and look really festive.
If you feel like an alternative to the traditional tree this year we are currently taking orders for these, but as with all Christmas wreaths, garlands or arrangements we need orders as soon as possible as December gets very busy with workshops. Price for your tree will depend on its size and whether you want it decorated or not, but the cost of this wire structure for example minus flowers and foliage is $180.00. Budget another $150 for us to supply materials and style it. The wire structure can be used again and again each year, or decorated with seasonal materials for parties or events.
We’re also taking bookings now for our Christmas Wreath Workshops at Riccarton House, Deans Bush Christchurch. See flyer below for details and contact us to secure a space.
Inspired by a profusion of wild flowers growing in abandoned land sections around town, Rachel and I felt compelled to celebrate these humble materials offering glimpses of beauty amidst our earth-shaken city. Nature somehow manages to thrive even in the most inhospitable and unlikely environments.
We gathered armfuls of rose-pink Queen Anne’s Lace and feathery stems of white yarrow along the coastal roadside near Lyttelton to create our giant Wild Flower Wire Heart in time for Valentine’s Day.
Once the Queen Anne’s Lace flowers are finished, the umbel kind of curls up into a bird’s nest shape (hence one of its other common names) which when combined with freshly flowering stems create contrasting form in arrangements.
The contradictory properties of these fragile, romantic wild flowers and the man-made wire structure complement each other quite effortlessly.
Come and learn how to make basic wire structures from recycled fence wire. Check out our workshop dates. Coming soon.
Having gathered like crazy, we’re now ready for our annual Christmas Floral Workshops.
Basket willow for bases, gum foliage and berries, leucospermum from Rachel’s garden, succulents that can be replanted once the festive season is over. Oyster and paua shells from Purau for those that like a beachy feel.
Thanks everyone for your wonderfully enthusiastic support. We’ve put on some extra classes now so that no-one misses out!
